In the November/December 2011 edition of Meetings & Incentive Travel (or ‘Meet Pie’ as it’s informally known as!) our very own Ellie Flannery appeared on page 132 talking about one of our many events in Portugal this year. Here is the case study in Ellie’s words.
The Client: IT Software Company
The event: Meeting and incentive
The venue: Tivoli Victoria Hotel, Vilamoura
The Participants: 14 global account managers
As this is a regular meeting, our specific goal each quarter is to create a unique event that offers the clients some new and exciting activities, combined with the best meeting space and the most luxurious accommodation for the budget. Quite simply, Portugal’s rates and value for money can’t be beaten by any other warm European destination. It also has full international access – a huge pull as our clients generally fly in from every continent.
The programme began with welcome drinks and an evening barbecue at the hotel. Day one was a hands-on activity at the race track in Portimao, with professional drivers taking our guests (and Ellie! ed) on high-speed laps of the Formula 1-approved facility. We then calmed things down in the evening with dinner at Casa Rei das Praias, right on the beach in Ferragudo.
The morning of day two was taken up with the main meeting, followed by an afternoon of golf – the Arnold Palmer-designed Victoria course is adjacent to the hotel, which was another reason for our choice. Non-golfers meanwhile had the option of massages and full use of the hotel’s luxurious Elements by Banyan Tree Spa facilities. We then finished with dinner at the Mayflower restaurant, right on the marina in Vilamoura, before check-out the following morning.
Our feedback was that the participants had a fantastic time and left feeling motivated for the next quarter. We all commented on how amiable the Portuguese were throughout our time there too. Along with the access and rates, this is another key reason we frequently use Portugal – we have held three other client events in Cascais, near Lisbon, already this year.
